It was all over within seconds but it was red-hot adrenaline rush for a group of gutsy push bike riders.
As a metal and cardboard screen, doused in accelerant, erupted into a wall of flames at the Findon Skid Kids cycle speedway track yesterday, four club members put the pedal to the medal and headed straight for it.
The quartet quickly got their speed up before they stormed up a ramp and jumped through the fire wall, much to the delight of the crowd. The spectacular stunt was all part of the Findon Skid Kids 60th anniversary celebrations.
It was the first time that Sam Rochester, 43, had attempted the “daunting” feat.
“It was over that quickly and I just had all my attention on making sure I didn’t crash,” he said.
“It was such a great adrenaline rush.”
Seasoned fire-jumper Brad Delmenico, 51, said the stunt “looks a bit gutsy, but if you leave the flame to burn enough, by the time you go through it’s just vapour”.
Ben Mould, 24, took a tumble during the stunt, but walked away unscathed.
“I just fell off as soon as I came through fire wall and I just went over the handlebars,” he said.
