Spring newborns are keeping Australia’s favourite TV zoologist on his toes.
Baby emu Eddie, koala Mozart, Stanley the southern hairy-nosed wombat and Leroy the wallaby are the latest arrivals at Chris Humfrey’s Wild Action Zoo at Macedon.
“It’s an around-the-clock job and I’m not getting a lot of sleep but I love it,’’ Humfrey said.
“It’s an honour to be looking after them but, just like parenthood, it can be draining.’’
Humfrey said the cold start to spring meant newborns of all kinds needed a little more care.
“The cold weather can be tough on humans but it’s even harder for animals.’’
Humfrey, host of hit show Animal Instinct on Foxtel’s Animal Planet, said the success of the first season had helped raise awareness about the welfare of many of Australia’s natural species.
