They are the city’s unwanted visitors and they’ve got our real tourists in a furious flap over their brazen food philandering from above.
Swooping seagulls stealing meals from diners at the world-famous Opera House have emerged as the biggest gripe about Sydney posted on social media by travellers.
“They eye you off and it is just gross,” Claudia Duffy, 18, said after desperately fending off the pests at the Opera Bar during her $29 fish and chip lunch this week.
While the bird-brained Sydney City Council doesn’t feel the need for any seagull control policy, tourist hotspots have now been forced to take the problem into their own hands — and paws.
Along with offering $20 cocktails and the city’s best view, the Opera Bar also employs staff to chase away seagulls while waiters are armed with water spray bottles against the fowl foodies.
