Meet the Gold Coast’s toughest triplets.
“Everything that could have gone wrong in a multiple pregnancy did go wrong,” Lenka Danson says of the rocky road her two-year-olds Phoenix, Noah and Lyrik had to navigate before even taking their first breaths.
“We were actually advised to ‘downsize’ by one or two but I just couldn’t imagine doing it. Which one do you pick? They all looked the same (in the womb). It wasn’t an option.
“We didn’t know what the outcome would be for our boys or if they would survive … but they are our little fighters.”
The same could be said for Lenka and husband Kurt, the Nerang couple who have shared their emotional journey to mark the launch of the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Christmas Appeal.
There was the harrowing diagnosis of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, a serious condition that affects triplets who share one placenta and meant Phoenix was not receiving enough nutrition to gain weight.
