Billionaire dad Nick Woodman credits Australia with helping him make his riches.
The 42-year-old created and tested the first GoPro prototype on a three-month surfing trip around Australia 15 years ago.
“I figured I may never get to take a surf trip like this again and I wanted to document it,” Woodman (far right) said. “The motivation to come here and do that road trip led to the motivation to build the first GoPro, so 100 per cent, GoPro is part-Australian.”
That prototype was made out of an old surf strap, attaching the camera to his wrist. He used his mum’s sewing machine.
He’s in the country launching GoPro Hero 6 but just as important to him is checking out our local beaches. “I am staying in Bondi, there are some pretty good-looking waves there,” he said.
Woodman has an estimated net worth of around $1 billion and lives in Woodside, California, with his wife and three kids.
