A family splashed less than the cost of a car on a new house at a supercharged Ringwood auction yesterday.
Three bidders competed for a tiny mobile home, which sold under the hammer for $56,000.
Phillip Webb agent and auctioneer Mitchal Towns believed the auction was a first for the country.
“As far as I know it’s the first time a tiny house trailer home has been auctioned in Australia,” he said.
Mr Towns said tiny homes were the biggest thing in real estate at present and a great low-cost living concept.
“Only about 14.4sq m in size, the house is not much larger than the average hotel room or student accommodation,” he said.
Mr Towns said there had been phenomenal interest in the pint-sized homes because of their affordability, flexibility and mobility.
