Texan Scott Wade has been named the Da Vinci of Dirt and the Michelangelo of Mud for his penchant for dirty car art.
And it may become one of the most controversial art installations at Strand Ephemera.
Townsville City council has transported 13 wrecked motor vehicles to the beach in front of Strand Park, where they will stay for the next two weeks.
The American is one several international artists who have flown in to Townsville this week to begin installing their transient art as part of The Strand Ephemera.
Mr Wade, a graphic designer, was scratching, scraping and smudging headturning works of art on to the rear windows of the cars, using a powdered clay yesterday. He has scratched out a portrait of rock wallabies on the rear window of a belted up Daewoo, while a preloved station wagon is adorned with a longhorn bull. “It is totally ephemeral art. I wouldn’t want it to last,” Mr Wade said.
Would-be dirty car artists can try out at one of his public workshops at the Strand Park beach on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm and again next weekend.
