Plus-size models have argued they are some of the healthiest women in the fashion ­industry, slamming medical experts’ claims that they glorify obesity.
It comes after Australian Medical Association NSW President Brad Frankum yesterday said he had concerns “extremely overweight” models were sending a dangerous health message to women.
In her piece, Ms Fuda slammed a recent Sports Illustrated fashion parade which used models “who appeared to be approaching the sizes 20-26” as “irresponsible”.
However, Australian “plus- sized” model Sophie Sheppard said it was ridiculous to label the women unhealthy purely by looking at a photo.
“The images of those ­labelled as “size 20 to 26” as “huge” and “morbidly obese” is such at outdated argument,” the 28-year-old, who has appeared in international campaigns, said.
“These girls are normal sizes ... it’s just that people aren’t used to seeing people of that size strutting confidently, proud down the runway for something like Sports Illustrated.
