Whiz kid Calven Lipec has unlocked the secret to one of the world’s most popular puzzles — and he can do it in just 14 seconds.
The 11-year-old from St Albans has mastered the art of speed cubing after picking up his first Rubik’s cube just seven months ago and now spends about three hours a day practising.
After taking out several local competitions, the grade 6 student has attracted international attention and has been invited to compete at the World Speed Cubing Championships in Paris next month.
His father, Jeremy Lipec, said it would be an incredible experience for his son to compete alongside his idols but he was struggling to afford the trip. “I am doing everything I can to get him there, but at this stage there’s a good chance he won’t get to go,” he said.
