Five-year-old Lydia Ebdon is tougher than most.
The cheeky little girl was just the second child the Royal Children’s Hospital has seen with a rare type of bone cancer in the forehead, and only one of four internationally documented cases.
Doctors at the hospital had to perform radical surgery to reduce the size of the tumour in her skull that was behind her eye and was putting pressure on her brain.
Surgeons spent seven hours cutting out her entire forehead bone and eye socket.
They then took bone at the back of her skull to replace the forehead in a complicated but successful operation.
Her mum Melinda said Lydia had shown maturity beyond her years.
“Lydia has always been really tough and resilient,” Ms Ebdon said.
“She is just what you want your daughter to grow into as a woman. She’s soft, loving, beautiful and full of laughter — but she won’t take crap from anyone.”
Ms Ebdon, a single mother of five from Tasmania, said she was so grateful for Lydia’s medical treatment.
