Melbourne's favourite gorilla, Yakini, has been given the health tick of approval after a date with the doctor.
The king of Werribee Open Range Zoo captured the hearts of people across the world when he was born by caesarean in 1999. Pictured at just three days old (below right), the silverback gorilla weighed just 2.6kg. Now he tips the scales at 192kg.
The zoo’s vets were pleased with the results of the health check, which Yakini passed with flying colours.
