She's a classic tomboy from the Australian bush ... who went to Hollywood and became Scarlett Johansson’s stunt double.
Rhianna Buchanan (right) grew up on a farm in remote Queensland racing bikes, driving cars and getting dirty. But she didn’t forget her girlie side, either, doing ballet and dance recitals.
“I really embraced both sides, being a tomboy, running around in whatever clothes, not caring how I looked,” Buchanan told Confidential.
“But I also loved ballet and hip-hop dance, where I’d get dressed up, with a face full of makeup, and a cute little outfit.
“It was the best of both worlds.”
It was a collision of those worlds that got Buchanan noticed by Tinseltown talent scouts, and cast her as Johansson’s (inset) stunt double in this year’s Ghost In The Shell. She was also a stunt double in Wolverine (2013).
“You can’t be upset when you’re made to look like Scarlett Johansson, right? It’s definitely flattering,” Buchanan said. “But stunt work is hard work. It’s long hours, day and night shoots, often back to back, and you’ve got to perform, hitting your marks every time.”
Soon, Buchanan will make her mark on a different stage, as a first-time monster truck driver at Monster Jam, at AAMI Park on October 14.
