Pedestrians may soon be stopped not by a little red man but by a little red woman in a dress. A VicRoads-approved trial of 10 female silhouettes is aiming to address gender bias. The Equal Crossings initiative was designed by the influential Committee for Melbourne’s Future Focus Group. Minister for WomenFiona Richardson said there were many small but symbolically significant ways women were excluded from public space. “I’m thrilled to see pedestrian crossing lights use a woman’s figure,” she said.
