The childhood bullies who taunted Altemira Schliebe for being too skinny are now just a distant memory.
Schliebe, 35, has just won the world’s most prestigious fitness modelling competition — the ICN Professional World Championship.
“When I was first invited to train for competitions four years ago I said ‘No way’,” she said. “I could never imagine myself wearing a bikini in high heels on stage.
“I had never even been on a diet because I was always trying to put on weight.
“I was very skinny and had no confidence in my body but now I have much more self-belief. I feel I can achieve anything.”
The Brazil-born personal trainer beat hundreds of entrants to win the title in Thailand, at the end of June.
Schliebe trained for two hours daily with coach Paulo Freitag and followed a strict diet to help achieve her goals.
Freitag said her confidence and proud walk, as much as her symmetry and muscular proportion, were factors in her win.
“We talked a lot about getting the best out of yourself and knowing the reasons why she wanted to achieve this,” he said.
“Overcoming the fear of ridicule and bullies was a big motivator for her.”
