Miley may have no idea she is a record breaker but she definitely knows she is the proud mum of 18 puppies.
She endured a 13 ½ hour labour on May 18 to produce the biggest Dalmatian litter on record in Australia.
CC Dalmatians breeder Cecilia Langton-Bunker said she thought Miley, 3, may have finished whelping at number 16 — only to be astonished when two more puppies arrived.
“It’s an amazing number of puppies when you think that the average sized litter for Dalmatians is eight or 10,” she said. “It’s been a big journey for all of us. I’m just in awe of Miley and that all the pups have survived is a credit to the quality of her genes, her perseverance and her good health.”
Dad CC Dals Astro Wonder Boy, 4, was nearby during labour, which began at 7am and didn’t finish until 8.30pm.
All of the puppies have been sold, including a rare pup born with a heart-shaped spot over her eye.
“I expect to get an empty nest feeling when they all start going to their new homes on July 22 because this is a very special litter,” Ms Langton-Bunker said.
