This is the confronting reality of the state’s out-of-control addiction to booze and drugs.
A paralytic man, who had earlier shouted at police “I’m gang-affiliated”, lies semiconscious on a petrol station forecourt in upmarket Rushcutters Bay in the early hours of yesterday morning. His trousers are ripped at the groin, shredded along with any trace of his dignity. Near him, a young woman whose white nightclub outfit is covered in grime sprawls on the tarmac, sobbing and too out of it to stand. It’s not known if they were drunk or on drugs, or both.
All over the state, hospitals were this weekend inundated with seriously ill revellers — victims of the lethal drugs that have flooded our streets.
