Shark hunters hauled a monster man-eater from a NSW river where families swim — using just a rod and line to wrestle the beast to the shoreline.
Adam Maddalena and Glenn Lambert snared the 3.1m, 350kg bull shark at night in the Manning River near Taree.
Mr Lambert landed the shark after an exhausting 30-minute battle, in which he had to jump in a kayak and paddle out into the river to prevent the shark snagging his line.
The brackish water, lit only by the anglers’ dim torches, exploded in a mountain of thrashing foam as the shark’s massive fin and powerful body emerged from the murky depths.
“It was probably the biggest fight Glenn’s ever had. The release was great, the shark was so strong as it swam away,” Mr Maddalena said.
The Daily Telegraph was on hand to witness the stunning fight, which for many fishers would be the absolute catch off a lifetime.
Amazingly, it is the latest and largest in a string of bulging bull sharks the experienced local pair have hauled from the Manning, which is chock-full of the aggressive beasts this time of the year.
