Amelia Cross, 6, was fearless as she jumped on the back of a 400kg crocodile.
The public had the opportunity to get up close and personal yesterday with the reptile at Crocodylus Park.
The unnamed male was sedated as staff prepared to move the 30-year-old saltie to a breeding enclosure.
The croc was tied up with the public able to pat and sit on the 400kg beast.
Amelia said she wasn’t nervous when sitting on the back of the croc.
“It was comfortable (to sit on) but not when I lay down,” she said.
Her family have spent the holidays travelling through the Northern Territory and her father Clayton said this was the perfect way to cap it off.
“There’s nothing like it, I’m shocked actually, this is unbelievable,” he said.
Crocodylus Park owner Giovanna Webb said they decided to allow the public to meet the croc as they already had to sedate it for its move into another pen where it will become part of the park’s breeding program.
“He has been a bachelor all his life so we are going to give him a girlfriend,” she said.
“Hopefully next year we will have a few babies.”
She said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the croc up close.
“It’s a very rare occasion where you can get up really close in a safe way,” she said.
