While most cats hate getting their paws wet, Calypso the Bengal loves the water so much she surfs and swims.
The seven-year old kitty has always loved water which owner Monique Macleod, 27, of Robina said is typical of the Bengal breed.
“She was constantly in the sink with the dishes,” she said.
“She definitely loves water – she likes drinking out of the tap. In my old house she spent time in the pool.”
It was here Ms Macleod decided to teach her how to surf by placing her on a boogie board and floating her around.
She then started to take the confident cat out on a paddleboard at Currumbin or Tallebudgera Creek.
Ms Macleod said it only took a few goes before Calypso “got it down pat”.
“She’ll jump off (the board) for a swim, and then I help her back on,” she said.
Ms Macleod said Calypso always wore a life jacket in case there was rough water, or boats nearby.
