Justine Clark is about to make history as Australia’s first contestant in a wheelchair to enter the Miss World contest.
The worldwide competition holds its South Australian heat today and the determined Reynella 26-year-old already dreams of reaching the national title.
“I can see that crown on my head,” Miss Clark said.
The aspiring beauty queen has used a wheelchair for two years but she wouldn’t reveal the circumstances that changed her life. However, she said: “I want to be a role model and empower young women.
“For somebody in a wheelchair to be able to compete is a big thing. I really hope it sends a message that no matter what your race, size or disability – whatever makes you different – you are beautiful.”
Miss World national director Deborah Miller said Miss Clark’s involvement showed that “beauty comes in all forms”. “I think Justine is incredibly inspirational.”
