A Gold Coast promoter’s plan to hold “lingerie boxing” at Surfers Paradise next week is an insult to women and to the sport, according to a leading social commentator.
But promoter Jamie Myer said the bouts were an attempt to attract more punters to boxing – although the women are not professional fighters.
He has scheduled two lingerie boxing bouts for his March 3 fight card at QT ­Resort.
Coolangatta bartender Jess Davis will have her first fight in Myer’s lingerie boxing event and said she was motivated to take up the sport to get fit.
The 27-year-old said she thought there was nothing wrong with the concept.
