Baby wombat Fudge is as sweet as her name and loves nothing more than snuggling up to nine-year-old Charlie, who is hand-rearing her.
After spending six months in her mum’s pouch and six months under Charlie’s care, Fudge is still a little joey in need of plenty of attention, including bottle feeding.
Charlie’s mum, Julia Leonard, who runs the Ballarat Wildlife Park with partner Greg, said Fudge’s mum, Coco, needed a break after having 10 babies.
“Coco got a bit tired of Fudge, so now Charlie’s giving her bottles and cuddles,” Ms Leonard said.
Visitors can meet Fudge at the wildlife park.
“She’s cheeky too,” Ms Leonard said.
“There are certain rooms in the house that she races into and hides in piles of shoes and under beds.”
Ballarat Wildlife Park is also home to six other common wombats like Fudge, a salt water crocodile as well as numerous other Australian and exotic species.
