Floating on air after this week’s “carpool” prank of genius, Adelaide twins and YouTube sensations Danny and Michael Philippou are diving head-first into the shark tank of Hollywood.
The twins and friend Jackson O’Doherty wore swimming goggles as they drove the Ford Laser – a virtual fishbowl on wheels – through the Lonsdale Hotel bottle shop on Wednesday.
Two months in the making, the ambitious and amphibious project was brought to fruition by mechanics at Lonsdale business Custom Imports. Danny Phillippou told The Advertiser the Ford was still roadworthy.
“The indicators still work, the horn still works, everything just got rewired to the outside so there are no electronics inside the car,” he said.
Danny, 26, was relieved when police said no offences had been committed but it was irresponsible. After an initial effort sprung a leak, mechanics sealed the cabin to leave a sunroof as the only opening to enter and exit the vehicle. Other drivers and bystanders were stunned as they caught a glimpse of the weirdness, filmed and watched nearly 200,000 times within the first 24 hours.
