A spectacular new tourism campaign for the Great Barrier Reef is the latest weapon to quash fears the natural icon is in decline.
Holiday-makers will be able to book helicopter flights and submarine tours of the Great Barrier Reef using the ride-share app Uber as part of a multimillion-dollar global marketing campaign unveiled yesterday by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).
With the stunning Heron Island as a backdrop, the $3 million scUber campaign was launched in front of the world’s media with a three-person submersible rising out of the pristine tropical waters.
The campaign also has been applauded by environmental leaders eager to prove the reef is still very much alive, despite negative publicity internationally.
In a world-first partnership with Uber, tourists will be able to book a tour of the Barrier Reef in all its glory, featuring a car ride to a waiting helicopter, transfer to an offshore pontoon and an hour-long submarine tour.
