If you thought climbing up and down trees was an activity just for kids, you were wrong.
More than 150 of the world’s best tree climbers have travelled from all corners of the globe to swing from the treetops of red gums in a small SA country town this weekend.
The 155 men and women are competing in a unique tree-climbing event that organisers expect to pump $400,000 into the local economy.
The community of Kapunda, on the edge of the Barossa Valley, will be the centre of the arborist universe today and tomorrow as competitors pit their roping, belaying, swinging, jumping scampering and climbing skills against each other.
They’ll compete in an event called Red Bull Branched Out and swinging from the giant river red gums around the duck pond in the town’s Davidson Reserve.
