Spare a thought for Phoenix, Mogo Zoo’s aptly named lion cub who was born just days before bushfires almost destroyed the NSW south coast attraction. By now he should have risen from the ashes and be well into his pomp as one of the zoo’s main drawcards. But coronavirus has put paid to that, forcing the zoo to shut yet again. In fact, Phoenix only enjoyed a short window between the fires and the pandemic when he was able to meet his adoring public. And it’s possible that by the time fans get the chance to see him again the cute playful cub will be all grown up, a king of the jungle.
