When the Penno family discovered a toad in their home last week, they had no idea how far he’d come to get some shut-eye on their dog’s bed.
Returning from Bali on the red-eye, it was a few hours later that Chloe, 9, noticed they were sharing their Mile End home with Elvis the toad.
“We had a great time and came home and my daughter found a frog in our dog’s bed,” Ms Penno said.
“My husband thought, ‘My goodness, the dog has brought in a frog – I’ll save it and take it to the River Torrens and let it go’. But before releasing him into a new home, Michael Penno realised something might be amiss and the family contacted friends who worked at Adelaide Zoo.
The State Government has described the Asian black-spined toad as one of South Australia’s “10 most wanted” – with the potential to be more environmentally damaging than the cane toad.
